When Alberto and I were in Maine last summer, we saw a set of napkin rings that were super adorable. They were made out of little preppy belts that used D-ring buckles. Alberto looked at me, and I saw the light bulb above his head. He said, “our old ties!” I was a little dubious, but why not try it, right? It turned out to be a great idea and the tie we used was not really preppy, but it was perfect for the holiday season! Read more →
We host Christmas dinner at our house every year. (Well, I host while Alberto cooks. You definitely don’t want to eat my cooking!) This year we wanted something special for the center of the table. We kept tossing around ideas, but nothing really seemed right. So to help us with our inspiration, we headed down to the basement to see what we could find. (Weird, I know, but it seems to work for us!)
We were rummaging through when we saw a bundle of wooden shingles left over from when we had the house painted a few years ago. Immediately, Alberto said “Christmas tree!” and just as quickly, I said “Of course!” (Don’t try to figure out how we do this, it just is…) Read more →
We’re ready for Christmas and here’s a few pictures of the trees this year. The one in the family room (above) always has the most history. We always make sure that it features ornaments from all the trips we’ve taken, along with personal photos of our family and dogs. You can see (below) some of the ornaments we’ve picked up in Spain, Maine and Arkansas. Read more →
Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away and we’re putting the final touches to the menu for the day. Alberto’s job is to come up with a signature cocktail and what’s better than using the eponymous brand of bourbon Wild Turkey. The Loopy Turkey is basically a Cosmo made with bourbon. It’s very delicate, but it also offers subtle depth and warmth in every sip. We made it with diet cranberry juice, so we’re sure to save calories for the real food! Here’s the recipe…
Makes two cocktails
- 8 oz of Wild Turkey
- 4 oz of Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry
- 2 oz of Triple Sec
- Splash of lemon juice
- Rosemary sprigs and fresh cranberries for garnish
Pour all of the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake well. Serve in a cocktail glass and garnish with the rosemary and fresh cranberries. The drink is not only delicious but it’s also the perfect way to start the holiday. Cheers!
As many of you know, last year’s Halloween wreath was featured in this month’s Woman’s Day Halloween Celebrations. We were very excited when the magazine selected us and were quick to put one together for the photo shoot. If you can’t find the magazine anymore, here’s a link to our wreath on their website (including instructions!), but below are a couple of pictures of how we went about putting it together (in May) for the issue!!!
We’re having people over for Halloween next weekend, so we’re trying out new cocktail recipes. The Drunkin’ Pumpkin cocktail is more of a dessert…it has frozen yogurt, pumpkin and our our favorite liquor, bourbon. Add a little pumpkin spice and you’ve got yourself a sweet lil’ creamy taste of the season.
Makes two cocktails:
- 6 oz of Maker’s Mark
- 4 0z of vanilla frozen yogurt
- 4 oz of canned pumpkin
- 4 oz of skim milk
- Pumpkin spice
Add all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Serve and garnish with another dash of pumpkin spice. So good and it’s probably good for you too. Enjoy!
A few weekends ago, while trying to figure out what kind of Halloween decorations we wanted to do this year, Alberto and I came across a ball of paper twine at the local dollar store. The ball was weaved into a pattern that we really liked and we immediately thought…the perfect material for a cobweb wreath! (sorry…this is very normal for us) Read more →
Maybe we’re going a bit overboard here in New Jersey, but we decided to bring all of our outdoor furniture and plants inside. This is the result…a very empty porch and back deck! It took us three hours to bring everything in and now we feel like we’re living inside a plant shop….but better safe, than sorry. Now, we just have to wait and hope it doesn’t hit us as bad as they’re predicting. So, C’mon Irene…bring it! We’re ready for you!
Everyone stay safe out there!
