I hate throwing away the corks from wine and champagne bottles in hopes that we’ll end up doing something with them. But we never do. Alberto is beginning to question my cork hoarding obsession. Just before he was ready to throw them out, I came up with the idea to make Christmas ornaments! Since we’re visiting our nieces and nephews for the holidays, why not make them with the kids? We left the knife cutting to the adults, but the kids can do everything else. It’s going to be our new holiday tradition! Read more →

We host Christmas dinner at our house every year. (Well, I host while Alberto cooks. You definitely don’t want to eat my cooking!) This year we wanted something special for the center of the table. We kept tossing around ideas, but nothing really seemed right. So to help us with our inspiration, we headed down to the basement to see what we could find. (Weird, I know, but it seems to work for us!)
We were rummaging through when we saw a bundle of wooden shingles left over from when we had the house painted a few years ago. Immediately, Alberto said “Christmas tree!” and just as quickly, I said “Of course!” (Don’t try to figure out how we do this, it just is…) Read more →
We’ve had such a good time sharing these projects, and we appreciate all of your support! We wish you a happy, safe and crafty holiday season!
Best wishes for the New Year from Alberto, Brent, Gertie, Barney and Duff!!!
Because the glass tile Christmas tree ornaments were such a huge hit with everyone –and were super easy — Alberto wanted to do them again…but with a little twist. We decided to use small square glass tiles and put the initials of the host on both sides on an angle — remember, even the smallest change can give new personality to an old idea!
Once again, we think they came out great! We’re planning on doing a few more variations before the holidays are over…and we also have Chris and Lauren’s wedding coming up in a couple of weeks! We really love this idea…you should try it too!
Alberto is the driver behind many of the ideas in this blog, but I have to admit that when I heard this particular one, I thought he was nuts. He just said that he wanted to make ornaments out of glass tile, and all I thought of was the regular 4″x 4″ tile. I told him that it was going to be too HEAVY to hang on the tree. The second thing I thought was, why would anyone want to think of a bathroom when looking at the Christmas tree?! (Well, unless you’re one of our dogs…) Read more →
After our recent visit from our family, we wanted to make something for our nieces and nephews for Christmas. Our original intent was to make teddy bears for our nieces with some of the leftover fabric from other projects. We didn’t quite get to that, but we still liked the idea. So Alberto suggested that we make ornaments for them. That way, they will always have them at Christmas. Read more →
Alberto and I had wanted to make something shiny and fun for our front door Christmas wreath, like the one we did for our first Christmas together. It was made with metallic gift bows in gold, silver and copper. (We don’t have a picture of the wreath, but the matching trees that we made for the center of the table can be seen in our gallery!) So we were off to Michael’s! Read more →
Growing up, my family would always put up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It was always the beginning of Christmas for me. Today, Alberto and I still continue this tradition, and each year it keeps expanding. We have three trees (yes, three): living room, family room and dining room. However, they’re all artificial. We love real trees. But when we used to get them, they always got messy after a few days, and, quite frankly, they became a fire hazard by the time Christmas arrived. Read more →
