Funny Bunny Cocktail

Inspired by the Rubber Ducky Easter Wreath, we decided to take things to a new level by making a cocktail for Easter brunch that matched the festive orange tulle in the wreath. We’re calling it The Funny Bunny because we use carrot juice and chances are that you will feel very funny after just one. It’s kind of our own version of a healthy Cosmo, but try it and you be the judge. Read more →

Rubber Ducky Wreath

Easter is next week, and we wanted to make a wreath that would also be fun, colorful and festive to decorate our front door. As we were walking through the aisles of Michaels, Alberto spotted a bag of yellow rubber duckies. Knowing he doesn’t tend to take bubble baths, I knew something had to be up. He then proceeded to pick up a foam wreath base, and I immediately saw the light bulb! My only thought was that it was going to be difficult to cover that base without A LOT of rubber duckies. Then we saw the half round globe, and the idea was born. We’d just cover the globe, add tulle around the edges, and make a rubber ducky flower! Perfect for Easter?! Read more →

Our Crafty Pot Holders

OCH Potholders

Now that the days are getting longer, the sun is giving me spring fever. Unfortunately it’s still too cold to be outside . . . so Alberto and I decided to do a little spring cleaning with the closets. We usually donate the clothes to charity, but when I saw a worn pair of jeans, I had a different idea. Why not make them into pot holders?! The thickness of the denim would help reduce the heat through the pad, and it would add a great look to the kitchen. Then Alberto suggested that we should make them into the shape of the house in our logo. What a great idea! I found some old fabric to put in the “window,” and now we have these really unique potholders that are sure to help us in the kitchen! Read more →

We love our new urban space in DC, and we’re still trying to get everything settled. It always seems like there’s one area (or sometimes more than one) that just collects clutter. That area for us at our new place was a built in desk in our living room. We weren’t using it for a desk, so it just collected the bar stuff that we didn’t know what to do with. It always looked messy which was driving us crazy! I kept telling Alberto that we needed to buy a cabinet to store everything, but we couldn’t find anything we like (story of our lives…) Then Alberto got the great idea to just leave everything where it was! I know, it doesn’t sound brilliant on the surface, but what he meant is that we could turn the desk area into a bar.  This opportunity also gave me the  chance to try something that I’ve always wanted to do: apply fabric to a wall. To finish it we could just hang a couple of shelves, and all of a sudden, a cluttered eyesore becomes a beautiful accent area in our living room! Read more →

Heart-Shaped Crayons

Over the holidays, Alberto spent most of the time on the floor coloring with our nieces and nephews. (He gets a little competitive, and I had to praise him often for coloring inside the lines…) So when it came to Valentine’s Day, Alberto immediately thought about coloring with the kids. We used the leftover crayons that we had after the holidays, and melted them down to create cute little heart gifts for the kids. Then Alberto had the great idea to personalize them using glitter letters. This was such an easy project, and they make great little V-day gifts. You can even include the kids! Read more →

Carnation Paper Wreath

We recently went to Michaels to and ran across these cute little paper cupcake liners with X’s and O’s all over them. They were so cute that we couldn’t pass them up. Then it struck us…why not use them to make the wreath?! We picked up some pipe cleaners, and we were off! When we got home, I started playing around with the liners to try making a cone, but it wasn’t really working. But as I was playing with them, it occurred to me that I could add a couple of more liners, and they look very similar to carnations. Then it all came together at once. We are making a carnation wreath using cupcake liners! Read more →

Corky Christmas Ornaments!

I hate throwing away the corks from wine and champagne bottles in hopes that we’ll end up doing something with them. But we never do. Alberto is beginning to question my cork hoarding obsession. Just before he was ready to throw them out, I came up with the idea to make Christmas ornaments! Since we’re visiting our nieces and nephews for the holidays, why not make them with the kids? We left the knife cutting to the adults, but the kids can do everything else. It’s going to be our new holiday tradition! Read more →

Alberto and I were out Christmas shopping this weekend, and as usual, we couldn’t resist walking through a few furniture and décor stores to get some ideas for our new place. We came across some really beautiful faux fur throws and pillows. They looked and felt so luxurious — and for the price, they really should! We couldn’t justify buying them, but could we make them? Peppermint Martini

Categories: Christmas, Cocktails, Featured, Holidays, MartiniTags: , , , , , , Author:

More often than not, the best cocktails are made from just a couple of ingredients. We’re getting tired of seeing insanely complicated cocktails on restaurant menus. Sure, they are delicious but who wants to wait 15 minutes for the poor bartender to muddle and mix 10 different ingredients. We’ve also noticed that a lot of them are high on sugar. Enter the Peppermint Martini, which is not only perfect for the holiday season, but it’s also super simple to make  . . . and it has only two ingredients. Here’s how we made it: Read more →
