Sunburst Mirror

A couple of weeks ago, we made a party wreath inspired by a mirror that we saw in Madrid. We really liked the mirror and wanted to recreate it at home, but weren’t sure what we’d use to make it. But last Saturday, it all came together in (where else) Home Depot!

We were walking through the plumbing section, and Alberto saw decorative metal panels that are generally used for home radiator covers. We immediately thought about using them for the outside border. All we needed now was the small mirror for the center and we found it at Target, as part of an inexpensive set of round mirrors. Extreme Makeover: Oil Painting Edition

Several years ago, Alberto’s family gave us two oil paintings for our new home.  It was a very nice gesture, but they weren’t really our style.  They were in very chunky and ornate gold frames.  One of them was of a street scene, and we eventually found a home for it in one of our spare bedrooms.  But the other one was of a still life of a vase with flowers (possibly daisies or poppies?).  I’m not a big fan of still life to begin with, but this just reminded me of someone’s grandmother’s house.  Read more →
