Resin Picture Frames

Categories: Decor, DIY Projects, Featured, FramesTags: , , , , , , , , , Author:

When we first moved to our house we decided to adopt a botanical theme in the dining room. It’s tough to keep up as a lot of this type of art is expensive and requires to be framed professionally. But this past weekend while cleaning up the house, Alberto came across a book featuring old prints. The images were reproduction of old pencil drawings, and the book contained an entire section devoted to birds…it was the perfect opportunity to finish up the decor in the dining room! We built our own frames for this project and we also got to try out resin, something we had wanting to do for a while. The result is a set of really cute frames that are perfect for the room! Wood Shingle Christmas Tree

Categories: Christmas, Crafts, Featured, Holidays, TableTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We host Christmas dinner at our house every year. (Well, I host while Alberto cooks. You definitely don’t want to eat my cooking!) This year we wanted something special for the center of the table. We kept tossing around ideas, but nothing really seemed right. So to help us with our inspiration, we headed down to the basement to see what we could find. (Weird, I know, but it seems to work for us!)

We were rummaging through when we saw a bundle of wooden shingles left over from when we had the house painted a few years ago. Immediately, Alberto said “Christmas tree!” and just as quickly, I said “Of course!” (Don’t try to figure out how we do this, it just is…) Read more →

Plaid Pumpkins and Flaming Ghosts

Categories: Crafts, Decor, Entertaining, Halloween, Holidays, TableTags: , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We’re going with a lot of whimsy for next weekend’s Halloween dinner party. In the past, we  have decorated with pumpkins and apples as a centerpiece, but this year we dressed them up for the occasion….with electrical tape! We love plaids, so imitated one of our favorite patterns on the pumpkins (can you guess what it is?)

To add a bit of drama to the table we decided to make a couple of additional candle holders (other than the spider votives, of course). All we did was paint a couple of old Woodford Reserve bottles (their shapes are perfect for ghostly faces)! Once again, these two projects were very easy…and cute. We love putting a table together! New Pillows for the Porch

Categories: Crafts, Decor, DIY Projects, Pillows, Spring, Throw pillowsTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

One of the easiest ways to add a little color to any room is by making covers for throw pillows. Now that it is warm out, we wanted to try it on the front porch. We like to do that every season! You only have to buy the fabric, and you can easily change the feel of a room or space. We made these pillows the same way we made the ones in our post A Toile Bed for the Puppies! Of course we scaled it down for the pillows that we had. Try it!!! You’ll end up changing your pillows with the seasons, just like we do!

Sunburst Mirror

Categories: Crafts, Decor, DIY Projects, Frames, MirrorsTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

A couple of weeks ago, we made a party wreath inspired by a mirror that we saw in Madrid. We really liked the mirror and wanted to recreate it at home, but weren’t sure what we’d use to make it. But last Saturday, it all came together in (where else) Home Depot!

We were walking through the plumbing section, and Alberto saw decorative metal panels that are generally used for home radiator covers. We immediately thought about using them for the outside border. All we needed now was the small mirror for the center and we found it at Target, as part of an inexpensive set of round mirrors. This project was much easier than we thought it was gonna be, and it makes a GREAT addition to our house! Read more →

Summer Party Wreath

Categories: Crafts, Decor, Entertaining, Spring, Summer, WreathsTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

On our recent visit to Spain, we saw a lot of design ideas while shopping through home and interior design shops. One shop in particular had a mirror that really inspired us. We loved the circular diamond lattice design, but it was very expensive and we didn’t really want to deal with bringing it back home. On closer inspection, I told Alberto that I could make that easily. (Famous last words!) We weren’t sure how we would use the design, but we knew that we wanted to find a place for it somewhere in our home. Read more →

Kitchen Chair Cushions

The cushions for our kitchen island chairs have seen better days. We have been wanting to change them, but it’s been one of those things that goes on the “to do at some point in the future” lists. We didn’t really give it much thought until we found this great fabric in the remnant pile of our favorite fabric store. It has everything we wanted for the kitchen:  lots of color and bright prints! They came out great, and it gave the kitchen a new look. Read more →

Porch Trellis

Categories: Decor, DIY Projects, Frames, SpringTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We love our front porch, and we have a beautiful Wisteria that sits right on the other side of the wall. We decided to build a trellis that will sit at that end of the porch to allow the Wisteria to climb in and around it. We’ll hopefully get to see the beautiful blooms through the summer, and it will create a natural privacy screen on that end of the porch. The trellis was designed so that it echoes the decorative arts and crafts beams we have on our house…perfect for our crafty home! Read more →

Tree Trunk Tables

Categories: Decor, DIY Projects, Featured, Furniture, Table, TablesTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We were looking through a magazine this weekend, and we saw these great side tables that looked like they were simply tree trunks that have been sanded and sealed. (And they were going for about $200 each!) Alberto immediately thought of the wood blocks sitting in the back yard from several trees that we had cut down last Spring. Read more →
