OCH Potholders

Now that the days are getting longer, the sun is giving me spring fever. Unfortunately it’s still too cold to be outside . . . so Alberto and I decided to do a little spring cleaning with the closets. We usually donate the clothes to charity, but when I saw a worn pair of jeans, I had a different idea. Why not make them into pot holders?! The thickness of the denim would help reduce the heat through the pad, and it would add a great look to the kitchen. Then Alberto suggested that we should make them into the shape of the house in our logo. What a great idea! I found some old fabric to put in the “window,” and now we have these really unique potholders that are sure to help us in the kitchen! Read more →

Cucumber Pear Martini

It’s been a very warm winter here in DC (well for us anyway). The last few days have been sunny, unseasonably mild and the air was giving off just a hint of spring…what a tease! This weekend we couldn’t resist making a drink that would remind us of the warmer weather. The result is a beautiful, refreshing, but also very grown-up martini that warms up the tummy for the season but reminds us that spring is two weeks away! Here’s the recipe: Read more →

We love our new urban space in DC, and we’re still trying to get everything settled. It always seems like there’s one area (or sometimes more than one) that just collects clutter. That area for us at our new place was a built in desk in our living room. We weren’t using it for a desk, so it just collected the bar stuff that we didn’t know what to do with. It always looked messy which was driving us crazy! I kept telling Alberto that we needed to buy a cabinet to store everything, but we couldn’t find anything we like (story of our lives…) Then Alberto got the great idea to just leave everything where it was! I know, it doesn’t sound brilliant on the surface, but what he meant is that we could turn the desk area into a bar.  This opportunity also gave me the  chance to try something that I’ve always wanted to do: apply fabric to a wall. To finish it we could just hang a couple of shelves, and all of a sudden, a cluttered eyesore becomes a beautiful accent area in our living room! Read more →
