Inspired by the Rubber Ducky Easter Wreath, we decided to take things to a new level by making a cocktail for Easter brunch that matched the festive orange tulle in the wreath. We’re calling it The Funny Bunny because we use carrot juice and chances are that you will feel very funny after just one. It’s kind of our own version of a healthy Cosmo, but try it and you be the judge. Read more →

Easter is next week, and we wanted to make a wreath that would also be fun, colorful and festive to decorate our front door. As we were walking through the aisles of Michaels, Alberto spotted a bag of yellow rubber duckies. Knowing he doesn’t tend to take bubble baths, I knew something had to be up. He then proceeded to pick up a foam wreath base, and I immediately saw the light bulb! My only thought was that it was going to be difficult to cover that base without A LOT of rubber duckies. Then we saw the half round globe, and the idea was born. We’d just cover the globe, add tulle around the edges, and make a rubber ducky flower! Perfect for Easter?! Read more →
We love our new urban space in DC, and we’re still trying to get everything settled. It always seems like there’s one area (or sometimes more than one) that just collects clutter. That area for us at our new place was a built in desk in our living room. We weren’t using it for a desk, so it just collected the bar stuff that we didn’t know what to do with. It always looked messy which was driving us crazy! I kept telling Alberto that we needed to buy a cabinet to store everything, but we couldn’t find anything we like (story of our lives…) Then Alberto got the great idea to just leave everything where it was! I know, it doesn’t sound brilliant on the surface, but what he meant is that we could turn the desk area into a bar. This opportunity also gave me the chance to try something that I’ve always wanted to do: apply fabric to a wall. To finish it we could just hang a couple of shelves, and all of a sudden, a cluttered eyesore becomes a beautiful accent area in our living room! Read more →
We’re already planning for the spring season at Our Crafty Home. In addition to several new garden projects, we’re also planning a few Easter crafts. One of our ideas actually involved a wreath made out of real carrots…who knows if we’ll do it (we really don’t want those pesky squirrels to make off with it!), but just thinking about this wreath made us crave carrots. Instead of heading to the fridge and snacking on a few carrots, we decided to get carrot juice and make one of our favorite cocktails…a margarita! We found a delicious blend from Ralph & Charlie’s made with mango juice, which only added more goodness to the drink. To give it a kick (in addition to the generous amount of Corzo tequila), we added ALOT of cayenne pepper. Here’s the recipe: Read more →
Okay! Call me superstitious, but I think our Winter Glass Tile Wreath was just courting Mother Nature to bring even more snow and ice to our area. And after snow last Friday, we were done and took it down.
Now, being that Easter is only a couple of weeks away, we wanted to entice the warm weather to hurry it along a little…so we’re making a sweet wreath made out of jelly beans.
Yes, jelly beans. We had wanted to use something different to make the wreath interesting and the pastel beans we found at the local grocery store were perfect for our project! Read more →
Tomorrow we’re going to visit a couple of friends we haven’t seen in a while. They are not drinkers (the reason we don’t see them often), so we didn’t really know what to take to their house. Our de facto host gift is actually not very crafty (a bottle of wine) but this won’t work for them. Read more →
