Corky Christmas Ornaments!

I hate throwing away the corks from wine and champagne bottles in hopes that we’ll end up doing something with them. But we never do. Alberto is beginning to question my cork hoarding obsession. Just before he was ready to throw them out, I came up with the idea to make Christmas ornaments! Since we’re visiting our nieces and nephews for the holidays, why not make them with the kids? We left the knife cutting to the adults, but the kids can do everything else. It’s going to be our new holiday tradition! Read more →

It’s been a very busy year for us. Between moving (twice!), settling in, and unpacking (twice!), we thought we were doing well by putting up the Christmas decorations during Thanksgiving weekend. We’ve been enjoying our new place with all of our three Christmas trees when suddenly we realized that we never made a wreath for the front door! Big oops! Read more →

Irish Coffee Cocktail

Can you believe that we’re not done with our Christmas shopping? We only have a handful of gifts and only two weeks to go! Add our project for this week and we didn’t really think about making a cocktail for this afternoon. The solution? We literally threw a few things we had on our bar together and an amazing drink was born! We’re calling it the Irish Coffee Cocktail…bet you can guess the reason. Here’s the recipe: Read more →

Furtastic Pillows and Throw!

Alberto and I were out Christmas shopping this weekend, and as usual, we couldn’t resist walking through a few furniture and décor stores to get some ideas for our new place. We came across some really beautiful faux fur throws and pillows. They looked and felt so luxurious — and for the price, they really should! We couldn’t justify buying them, but could we make them? Peppermint Martini

Categories: Christmas, Cocktails, Featured, Holidays, MartiniTags: , , , , , , Author:

More often than not, the best cocktails are made from just a couple of ingredients. We’re getting tired of seeing insanely complicated cocktails on restaurant menus. Sure, they are delicious but who wants to wait 15 minutes for the poor bartender to muddle and mix 10 different ingredients. We’ve also noticed that a lot of them are high on sugar. Enter the Peppermint Martini, which is not only perfect for the holiday season, but it’s also super simple to make  . . . and it has only two ingredients. Here’s how we made it: Read more →

Wood Shingle Christmas Tree

Categories: Christmas, Crafts, Featured, Holidays, TableTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We host Christmas dinner at our house every year. (Well, I host while Alberto cooks. You definitely don’t want to eat my cooking!) This year we wanted something special for the center of the table. We kept tossing around ideas, but nothing really seemed right. So to help us with our inspiration, we headed down to the basement to see what we could find. (Weird, I know, but it seems to work for us!)

We were rummaging through when we saw a bundle of wooden shingles left over from when we had the house painted a few years ago. Immediately, Alberto said “Christmas tree!” and just as quickly, I said “Of course!” (Don’t try to figure out how we do this, it just is…) Read more →

The Christmas Trees (2011!)

Categories: Alberto & Brent, Christmas, Holidays, OrnamentTags: , , , , , Author:

We’re ready for Christmas and here’s a few pictures of the trees this year. The one in the family room (above) always has the most history. We always make sure that it features ornaments from all the trips we’ve taken, along with personal photos of our family and dogs. You can see (below) some of the ornaments we’ve picked up in Spain, Maine and Arkansas. Read more →

Mocha Blizzard

Categories: Christmas, Cocktails, Entertaining, HolidaysTags: , , , , , , Author:

You guys know that we love to create low-calorie cocktails, but sometimes we just can’t resist the temptation (it’s the holidays, after all) and make a very decadent recipe for our friends and family to enjoy. This weekend we came up with the Mocha Blizzard, a sweet, creamy, and minty cocktail that reminds us of everything that is great about the season. Here is the recipe:

Makes two cocktails

  • 6 oz of Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur
  • 4 oz of Brewed espresso (cold)
  • 2 oz of Rumple Minze Peppermint Schnapps
  • 2 oz of Chocolate syrup
  • Whipped Cream
  • Peppermint hard candies for garnish (crushed)

Combine the Godiva, espresso, schnapps, and chocolate syrup in small bowl and stir until the syrup is dissolved. (You must do this before putting the mix into the shaker, otherwise the chocolate will not mix well in the cold temperature.) Add the mixture into a shaker filled with ice and shake well. Serve in small glasses (it’s very rich, so a little goes a long way!) and top with the whipped cream and peppermint candies. Happy Holidays!

Blue Jean Christmas Ornaments

Categories: Christmas, Crafts, Holidays, OrnamentTags: , , , , , Author:

We have several pairs of old blue jeans that I just can’t seem to bring myself to throw out. They’re very worn out, but I just hate throwing away all of that fabric. So they continue to sit upstairs in a pile. Until this past weekend… Read more →
