While we were at the Goodwill last month, Alberto came up with a few other ideas. I’ve been wanting to make a lamp, and so Alberto decided to use books as the base for one. We love books, so it’s little wonder how Alberto came up with this idea. We found some very old hardcover books selling for a few cents (no first editions, don’t worry!) which were all perfect for the base. Read more →
Since the white marble tile tray from a few weeks ago was so easy to make and it looked so nice, we decided to do another one…albeit, a bit different. We were walking through Home Depot, and Alberto saw a Carrera marble floor jam. We put three silver handles on it, and it is now a great and interesting serving tray! This is one of those projects that is quick and easy, and it can turn a nice affair into something really elegant. And you don’t have to spend a lot of money!
Several years ago, Alberto’s family gave us two oil paintings for our new home. It was a very nice gesture, but they weren’t really our style. They were in very chunky and ornate gold frames. One of them was of a street scene, and we eventually found a home for it in one of our spare bedrooms. But the other one was of a still life of a vase with flowers (possibly daisies or poppies?). I’m not a big fan of still life to begin with, but this just reminded me of someone’s grandmother’s house. Read more →
After our recent visit from our family, we wanted to make something for our nieces and nephews for Christmas. Our original intent was to make teddy bears for our nieces with some of the leftover fabric from other projects. We didn’t quite get to that, but we still liked the idea. So Alberto suggested that we make ornaments for them. That way, they will always have them at Christmas. Read more →
With our family here from North Carolina, we’ve been surrounded by family, which is always wonderful. During the down time, I can’t help but wonder how crazy they must think we are with our Christmas decorations. I thought of this while I was looking at our tree in the dining room. We have two silver ornaments of an A and B (for Alberto and Brent). It made me smile because we made those ornaments years ago, for our second year in our first house. Here’s how we came up with them… Read more →
Alberto and I had wanted to make something shiny and fun for our front door Christmas wreath, like the one we did for our first Christmas together. It was made with metallic gift bows in gold, silver and copper. (We don’t have a picture of the wreath, but the matching trees that we made for the center of the table can be seen in our gallery!) So we were off to Michael’s! Read more →
Growing up, my family would always put up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It was always the beginning of Christmas for me. Today, Alberto and I still continue this tradition, and each year it keeps expanding. We have three trees (yes, three): living room, family room and dining room. However, they’re all artificial. We love real trees. But when we used to get them, they always got messy after a few days, and, quite frankly, they became a fire hazard by the time Christmas arrived. Read more →
Our Thanskgiving table is ready! All we need now is the food (we’re not cooking this year — we’re not that crazy!). Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement over the past weeks and we hope that y’all have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
