Wood Shingle Accent Mirror

Categories: Decor, DIY Projects, Featured, MirrorsTags: , , , , , , Author:

Alberto and I really loved how the Wood Shingle Christmas Tree came out, and we wanted to do something else with the leftover shingles. We thought of the mirror set that we got last Spring (which we used to make the Sunburst Mirror in June) and decided to make another decorative mirror for the house.

As we started shingling the plywood, it started looking even better than we’d hoped! Consequently, it became more and more difficult to decide where in the house we would place the mirror…the dining room, family room, the bedrooms? It looked amazing in each room, but once we stained it, there was no question where it would go. We had the perfect place in the dining room, and it will be one of the first things people see when they walk into the room…perfect! Read more →

Christmas Bow Wreaths

Categories: Christmas, Crafts, Holidays, WreathsTags: , , , , , Author:

Many of you know that Alberto and I love making wreaths…and the holiday season always gives us a good excuse to make new ones for the house. We came up with the idea of using Christmas gift bows a few years back and decided to revisit them while walking through our local market and found bags full of them. They were all so shiny and colorful that we couldn’t resist…now, all we needed was a few styrofoam wreaths and the glue guns, of course! Read more →

Mirror Side Table

Categories: DIY Projects, Furniture, Mirrors, TablesTags: , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We found a great little table at a local yard sale a few months back. Someone had converted it into a futon by putting a cushion on it. Alberto saw it, and immediately came up with an idea. We could glam it up by adding a mirror to the top and transform it back into a side table for the living room! Read more →

Woman’s Day Halloween Wreath

Categories: Alberto & Brent, Decor, Halloween, WreathsTags: , , , , , , , Author:

As many of you know, last year’s Halloween wreath was featured in this month’s Woman’s Day Halloween Celebrations. We were very excited when the magazine selected us and were quick to put one together for the photo shoot. If you can’t find the magazine anymore, here’s a link to our wreath on their website (including instructions!), but below are a couple of pictures of how we went about putting it together (in May) for the issue!!!

Plaid Pumpkins and Flaming Ghosts

Categories: Crafts, Decor, Entertaining, Halloween, Holidays, TableTags: , , , , , , , , , , Author:

We’re going with a lot of whimsy for next weekend’s Halloween dinner party. In the past, we  have decorated with pumpkins and apples as a centerpiece, but this year we dressed them up for the occasion….with electrical tape! We love plaids, so imitated one of our favorite patterns on the pumpkins (can you guess what it is?)

To add a bit of drama to the table we decided to make a couple of additional candle holders (other than the spider votives, of course). All we did was paint a couple of old Woodford Reserve bottles (their shapes are perfect for ghostly faces)! Once again, these two projects were very easy…and cute. We love putting a table together! Spider Web Halloween Wreath

Categories: Crafts, Halloween, Uncategorized, WreathsTags: , , , , , , , , Author:

A few weekends ago, while trying to figure out what kind of Halloween decorations we wanted to do this year, Alberto and I came across a ball of paper twine at the local dollar store. The ball was weaved into a pattern that we really liked and we immediately thought…the perfect material for a cobweb wreath! (sorry…this is very normal for us) Read more →

Blue Jeans Vase

We were going through our closets this weekend trying to clean out some of our old clothes. Generally we give everything to good will when we can, but Alberto found a pair of old blue jeans that he decided to turn into a pair of shorts. Read more →

Wooden Charger Clock

Categories: Crafts, Decor, DIY ProjectsTags: , , , , , Author:

A few weeks ago we found a great wooden dinner charger at a garage sale, but it was the only one they had. What to do with just one dinner charger? Well, how about a clock?!

We also bought a nice cabinet knob at Antropologie, which was perfect to mark the 12 o’clock space. Now we just needed to find the right markings for the 3, 6 and 9 spots and we found them at home. We like to collect old corks and a few of our favorites are the tops of the Woodford Reserve bottles. They have round wooden pieces on top of the cork. We took three of them, cut the cork in half, and added them to the clock. Then, we just painted the clock hands red and we now have a very unique clock! Read more →

C’mon Irene!

Categories: Alberto & Brent, DecorTags: , , , , , Author:

Maybe we’re going a bit overboard here in New Jersey, but we decided to bring all of our outdoor furniture and plants inside. This is the result…a very empty porch and back deck! It took us three hours to bring everything in and now we feel like we’re living inside a plant shop….but better safe, than sorry.  Now, we just have to wait and hope it doesn’t hit us as bad as they’re predicting. So, C’mon Irene…bring it! We’re ready for you!

Everyone stay safe out there!

Rockin’ Lobster Frame

Categories: Crafts, Decor, Frames, VacationTags: , , , , , Author:

Earlier this year, Alberto and I found an old wreath at the local Goodwill. It had a wooden Lobster on it… We gave the old wreath a makeover (see it here!), but also we kept the lobster. It was just too funny to throw away!

Fast-forward to last month..while we were in Maine surrounded by lobster shacks, Alberto had the idea of using the old lobster to create a souvenir photo frame for our Maine pictures. What a great idea! And it was easy. Now we have a great way to always remember our trip! Read more →
