We’re starting to put together our Halloween crafts this weekend and one of the things we considered doing was making gourds out of avocado skins. Guess what? It didn’t work…AT ALL. What worked was a new margarita recipe we’ve been wanting to put together for a while — a spicy avocado margarita! If it sounds and looks weird, don’t worry because it’s delicious. Here’s the recipe: Read more →

As I look up to this week’s project, I realize that I’m always learning something new with each new item. This week was no exception. I learned volumes.
We have a small room off of the kitchen which has just been converted into an office that would also serve us as a craft room. We found a couple of very modern and sleek tables that work great for both a desk and a work space. We also added boards, shelves, and put some of our favorite projects around the room for inspiration. The only thing we needed to finish the room was a fun crafty light for the space. It needs to be cool, modern and fabulous! (Foreshadow…) Read more →
Who isn’t addicted to Downton Abbey? We have been searching for an appropriate cocktail that is reflective of the time, but we realized that most cocktails did not really come of age until the American prohibition (talk about being crafty!) However, we recently came across a gin and Cointreau cocktail that was invented in London around the time of the Great War. It was too perfect to pass up and we’re renaming it the Downton Lady, and making it for tonight’s episode (and probably for next week’s Season 2 finale too!) Here’s the recipe: Read more →
We’re ready for Christmas and here’s a few pictures of the trees this year. The one in the family room (above) always has the most history. We always make sure that it features ornaments from all the trips we’ve taken, along with personal photos of our family and dogs. You can see (below) some of the ornaments we’ve picked up in Spain, Maine and Arkansas. Read more →
We spent our Thanksgiving holiday with Brent’s family in Stuttgart, Arkansas and it was really AWESOME (f0r a Jersey guy like me, that is). The Thanksgiving holiday week is actually a huge deal for the town of Stuttgart, also known as “The Rice Capital of the World” (I like to say it in a Celine Dion accent and Brent gets very annoyed, so I do it as often as I can). As many of you know, last year’s Halloween wreath was featured in this month’s Woman’s Day Halloween Celebrations. We were very excited when the magazine selected us and were quick to put one together for the photo shoot. If you can’t find the magazine anymore, here’s a link to our wreath on their website (including instructions!), but below are a couple of pictures of how we went about putting it together (in May) for the issue!!!
Maybe we’re going a bit overboard here in New Jersey, but we decided to bring all of our outdoor furniture and plants inside. This is the result…a very empty porch and back deck! It took us three hours to bring everything in and now we feel like we’re living inside a plant shop….but better safe, than sorry. Now, we just have to wait and hope it doesn’t hit us as bad as they’re predicting. So, C’mon Irene…bring it! We’re ready for you!
Everyone stay safe out there!
